Why should you use sourdough?
Sourdough is a live culture that you can use instead of traditional yeast to make your bread rise. Even though baked sourdough items don't have live probiotics in (because they are baked). Sourdough has a significant amount of good bacteria that helps break down starches (sugar) and gluten which makes sourdough bread much easier to digest than regular bread. Some people find it doesn't raise their blood sugar compared to regular bread.
Recommended directions: Upon receiving your sourdough starter it will be very hungry. To feed our starter add 1/4 cup of flour of your choice (we recommend king Author's organic select artisan) and 3 TBSP of water. Store in glass container that is two times the size of the original starter to give room for your starter to grow. Feed your starter at least every two weeks to keep it alive and thriving. As a general rule to feed your starter do one part starter, one part flour and 2/3 part water. DISCLAIMER: these suggestions do not guarantee success with sourdough.
As you feed your starter you should be well on the way to trying great sourdough recipes!
Note: Never let your starter come in contact with aluminum or metal, this can kill your starter. We recommend using a wooden spoon.
